FAQ

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

What is clinical psychology?

Clinical psychology is the branch of psychology that deals with the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioural difficulties. Its aim is to improve mental health and quality of life.

When is it a good idea to see a psychologist?

You can seek help when you experience anxiety, sadness, stress, relationship difficulties, panic attacks, or when you are facing life changes that affect you. You do not need to wait for something “serious” to happen in order to ask for support.

What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?

A psychologist provides psychotherapy, while a psychiatrist is a medical doctor and can prescribe medication.

THERAPY PROCESS

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session is introductory: we will discuss the reason you are seeking help, your history, and your goals. At the same time, we will get to know each other and you will see whether you feel comfortable in the therapeutic relationship. No preparation is required.

How do sessions work?

Sessions take place in a safe and confidential environment where you can express yourself freely. Through discussion and appropriate therapeutic approaches, we work together to understand and manage your difficulties.

How many sessions will I need?

The duration of therapy depends on each person’s needs and goals. Some people benefit from a few sessions, while others choose longer-term support.

How often will we meet?

Sessions are usually held once a week, especially at the beginning of therapy. However, frequency can be adjusted according to your needs and goals, through discussion and mutual agreement with the psychologist.

What if I still don’t feel comfortable after a few sessions?

It is important that you feel comfortable in the therapeutic relationship. If you do not, you can discuss it openly in the session. If you still do not feel it is a good fit, it is completely acceptable to stop or seek another therapist.

CONFIDENTIALITY

Are sessions confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a fundamental principle of the therapeutic relationship. All information you share remains strictly confidential, except in exceptional cases defined by law.

Are there exceptions to confidentiality?

Only in cases where there is a risk to you or others, in accordance with the law.

THERAPIST SUITABILITY

How do I know if the therapist is right for me?

The therapeutic relationship is based on trust and comfort. It is important that you feel you can express yourself freely.

What if I want to change therapist?

You are always free to change therapist. If you choose to do so, we can discuss it together and, if necessary, I can guide you or refer you to another professional. Your comfort and well-being remain the priority.

ONLINE SESSIONS

Can I have online sessions?

Yes, online sessions are available, offering flexibility and access from your own space.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes, research shows that online psychotherapy can be just as effective as in-person therapy for many issues, such as anxiety and depression. However, the experience may differ, as some non-verbal cues (e.g. body language) are reduced. Suitability depends on each person’s needs and preferences.

Which platform do you use for online sessions?

Online sessions are conducted via a secure and confidential video platform that protects your privacy. Details and instructions are sent before the first online session.

What do I need to participate?

A stable internet connection and a quiet, private space.
